Thirty years ago a small yet great company emerged from an architectural studio, driven by a single passion: to render every moment in life special with products dedicated to living together

The origins

A young architect with a great passion for art and design began his own journey, first by working at the studio of the architect Sandro Angelini and the workshop of his uncle, the painter Sandro Pinetti, to then open his own architectural and design studio.
These are the historical and cultural origins which led to the creation and development of the Pinetti company.

The history of Pinetti begins in Bergamo in 1983. Alberto and his wife Ezia, owners of an architectural studio, took their first steps in the artisan world by designing their first objects for the home: one-off items created as gifts which soon became so successful as to lead them to create a company: Pinetti S.r.l.

Their passion and love for their work were handed down to their children: the entry into the company of Andrea and Lorenzo guaranteed the introduction of new ideas and specific skills, which gave the company an international dimension and led to the distribution of the collections on a global scale.

The beginnings

The story of Pinetti began with self-produced projects for furniture for their own home. It was 1983 and Alberto, an architect, and his wife, Ezia, decided to create a series of large trays, boxes, tables and accessories to furnish the spaces where they invited their numerous guests, frustrated by the inability to find such objects in the shops. The objects they created were so successful with friends and acquaintances that, encouraged by this positive reception, they founded Pinetti S.r.l..

Among the first creations were hand-decorated trunks, and in the years to follow, clocks and trays decorated with the technique of marbling.

The opening of foreign markets

Straight away, in the first few years, Pinetti met with great success not only in Italy but also abroad: Harrods and Liberty in London, Lane Crawford in Hong Kong and Beijing, Kate’s Paperie in New York, the MoMA bookshop in New York, Tokyo and Seoul, and Axis in Tokyo.

The collections in leather

Thanks to the collaboration with the first international fashion brand, in 1989 the first collections made entirely in leather were born: leather became the principal material for the creation of objects such as photo albums, notebooks and folders.

The collaboration with Takao Sugimoto

The collaboration with the Japanese designer Takao Sugimoto led to the creation of Pinetti table sets in leather and wood, characterised by modular elements.

A family collection

The Pinetti collections are continuously enriched by the contribution of every member of the family: the sons Andrea, Lorenzo and Pietro, in 1993, created a collection of clocks identified by their nicknames, and these were followed by wooden notebook cases with leather spines.

The collaboration with Alberto Rabitti

1996 saw the beginning of a collaboration with Alberto Rabitti, which led to the creation of a collection in wood and leather dedicated to the office: block, folder, desk set, notebooks, albums and the Lettera writing desk set, which won the Wallpaper Design Award in 2011.

The Bespoke collections

The capacity to create unique, made-to-measure products allowed Pinetti to launch its Bespoke collections, produced for the most important haute couture and home-ware brands: objects with a very high level of personalisation, chosen as gifts for the most important companies.

The Contract collections

Magazine holders, tables, trays, tableware sets and baskets: in 2000 the home collection grew and became a reference point for the contract sector, for which Pinetti developed numerous projects for furnishings, housekeeping and food&beverage for hotels, yachts and private jets.

The collaboration with Liora Reich

The collaboration between Pinetti and the Israeli designer Liora Reich led to the creation of notebooks and bags in recycled leather, a true revolution in the use of an ecologically-sustainable material.

New headquarters

In 2003, encouraged by the increasing success in Italy and foreign markets, the company moved its headquarters to Brusaporto, near Bergamo. In the same year, it won second place in the Design Presige Award, held at Chibi&Cart.

The collaboration with Matteo Ragni and Giulio Iacchetti

On the occasion of the “Six designers for six companies” project, Pinetti collaborated with Matteo Ragni from Around Studio, winner of the Compasso d’oro award. Among the results of the collaboration, the notebook with a Slowtech perforated leather cover, the notebook with a special Corian Core closure, and the T-Bag and Jolie bags.

The collaboration with Edoardo Fioravanti

The collaboration with the designer led to a new logo for the company: five stacked sheets representing the members of the Pinetti family.

La collaborazione con Irene Guerrieri

With Irene Guerrieri, the Baby line was created: albums and furnishings for nursery rooms, which met with great success.

The collaboration with Antonio De Marco and 4P1B Studio

The meeting with the young designer Antonio De Marco in 2009 led to the creation of the lines of Hook and Euclide baskets, and the Briglia wood-holder.

The collaboration with Innocenzo Rifino and Habits Studio

With Innocenzo Rifino of Habits Studio, the Quattrogiga diary was born, winning the Design Plus award at the Ambiente Fair in Frankfurt in 2011, and earning a nomination for the Designpreis Deutschland. In the same year, Pinetti collaborated with the designers Joe Velluto, Stefano Cardini and Chiara Moreschi.

Wallpaper Design Award and Design Plus

2011 was a year of awards and recognitions: as well as the Design Plus Award for the Quattrogiga diary, Pinetti won the Wallpaper Design Award with Lettera, the elegant and essential desk set which reinterprets the antique travel desk sets of the 19th century and which is the high point in a successful range of products.

Growth in oriental markets

Pinetti widened its commercial network in the Far East and opened corners in the best shops in Korea, Japan and China.
At the same time, it developed new collections dedicated to the world of accessories and work and travel bags, like “Dot e Step” in collaboration with Tommaso Caldera.

An exclusive partner for important international brands

The experience matured in over 30 years of production and design now gives Pinetti the possibility to be the exclusive partner for the most important international brands, the best interior design studios, and the most prestigious ship builders and hotel chains.
Attention to detail, made-to-measure design, quality without compromise and attentive and precise service are the guidelines and cornerstones which allow Pinetti to take on more and more ambitious projects.
